Kung Fu
New students learn fundamental kicks, blocks, punches, and stances, as well as two short sequences: the Southern Arms System and Northern Five Stance.
Over time you will learn a range of different, but complimentary Kung Fu forms. We value your natural development over the requirements of any particular system. Classes are primarily based upon the Changquan or Northern Longfist style of Kung Fu, but our curriculum also includes a small range of southern style, Shaolin, and internal style forms, as we work to provide you with a well-rounded Wushu education. After learning the foundation forms including Shaolinquan 24, Southern Fist, and the Elementary Long Fist, at the intermediate level you are given more choice about how you can progress. Variations to existing forms are introduced, as well as the weapons forms, more complicated and challenging bare-hand forms, and you will also have the opportunity to learn dynamic two-person choreographed dueling routines, which are tailored to the strengths of the participants. |
Flexibility, strength and mobility exercises are also taught as part of the Kung Fu curriculum, so that you will not only develop your skills, but also improve your stance and posture, build a more dynamic athleticism, and deepen your body awareness.

What to Expect During Class
Our Kung Fu classes focus primarily on the development of coordination, strength and flexibility. You will learn a range of techniques and drills, and over time longer choreographed routines. Sometimes classes will involve specific strength and conditioning exercises, and sometimes they will be more focused on martial arts techniques and patterns.
Partnered self-defence exercises and the practical application of martial arts techniques will be introduced slowly over time. This may include punching, blocking and kicking drills, some grappling techniques, and the use of punching bags. Although we do not fight or spar in class, some degree of physical contact with other students is to be expected, as we workshop various techniques.
Classes are suitable for adults and teenagers.
