Yang Style Tai Chi
Benefits of Tai Chi include improved health and vitality, increased mobility and fitness, and a sense of peacefulness. Tai Chi emphasises fluid and efficient movements, balance, flexibility, leg strength, and harmony of body and mind. Practitioners develop grace and awareness, and a deeper appreciation for relaxed and fluid motion.
As a student of Tai Chi, you will learn a range of techniques and routines from the Yang family style including the 13-Forms and 24-Forms. Over time, self-defence concepts and applications are introduced along with the “push hands” sensitivity exercise. Intermediate and advanced students will have the opportunity to study more complicated and dynamic routines including sword, fan and spear, and a more vigorous application of techniques. |
What to Expect During Class
Our Tai Chi classes focus primarily on technique and form work. During any class, a range of techniques will be broken down and practiced individually and in relation to certain sequences.
It is impossible to train Tai Chi without also practicing Qigong (energy work/exercise). We commence classes with Qigong stretching exercises, and conclude with a short period of meditative postural work known as “standing practice”.
Classes are suitable for people of all ages.
